The votes are in, and Russell Westbrook is officially the 2017 NBA MVP. Westbrook was the first player to average a triple-double since 1962, and carried the Oklahoma City Thunder to the playoffs. However, James Harden led the NBA in assists, and his team ended with a better record. Did the NBA voters get it right? 🏀

Triple-double. Enough said. Russell Westbrook pulled off one of the most incredible statistical feats in NBA history, becoming only the second player ever to average double digits in points, rebounds and assists for the season. Not only that, he led the league in scoring while putting up those numbers.

Westbrook also took the Thunder on his back and carried them to the playoffsa year after losing Kevin Durant. Many had OKC outside of the playoff picture, but his effort on the court resulted in a postseason berth. Could Harden do the same with this supporting cast? I doubt it.

Westbrook might have had the triple-doubles, but what does that really mean if your team can't win? James Harden was more efficient than Westbrook in ever percentage category, and his team ended with a better record than the Thunder. If you're looking for a player that made his teammates better, look no further than James Harden

Not only was Harden more efficient than Westbrook, Harden won their head-to-head matchup in the playoffs. Harden came up big while Westbrook fell off the map with his terrible shot selection. Harden should've come out on top in the MVP voting.
