Is this real or just another fake retirement for Conor McGregor?
We've all seen this before. McGregor is emotional after something crazy happens in his life and he "walks away" from MMA. He's probably just marketing a future fight or even just laying low until the heat dies down. He's smart like that. The Irish fighter is not really retiring from the game he loves so much.
All McGregor knows is the fight. There is no amount of legal trouble that will kill his passion for the sport. Heck, he challenged Nurmagomedov to a rematch not too long ago! He won't let that loss sit without at least one more shot at redemption. He's not going to retire.
After two arrests and an embarrassing loss, McGregor walking away from MMA should not surprise anyone. Khabib Nurmagomedov already broke him as a fighter and he can't seem to stay out of handcuffs. Sure, he may still have the passion for fighting, but his time has come and gone, on his own terms or not.
Dana White could have effectively banned him from UFC and is just using retirement so that he doesn't humiliate McGregor. Or the Irishman is finding so much success not getting his head bashed in that he wants to walk away before any permanent damage is done. Either way, we have seen the last of McGregor in the Octagon.
