Can the Philadelphia Eagles survive without Carson Wentz?
Carson Wentz tore his ACL on this play diving for a touchdown. The play was called back for a penalty, but he still stayed in the game to throw a touchdown. He has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Can the Eagles succeed without him?
The Eagles got to where they are because of the superstar development of Carson Wentz. His 33 touchdowns lead the NFL at the time of his injury, and it will be impossible to replace that kind of production this late into the season.
Nick Foles is a good backup quarterback, but he isn't Wentz. Foles may have led Philadelphia to the playoffs in 2013, but the rest of the league figured him out in 2014. He won't be any help this time around. The Eagles are done.
Wentz is out, but this isn't a death sentence for Philadelphia fans. Nick Foles was a star for the Eagles when they went to the playoffs in 2013. He might not have the numbers he did that year, but he is more than capable of managing the game while Wentz is gone.
The Eagles also have other players to lean on. Philly has one of the best defenses the team has ever fielded, and the running game is flourishing with LeGarrette Blount and Jay Ajayi in the backfield. Wentz will be missed, but this hardly means the Eagles can't make it to the NFC Championship and beyond. Philadelphia will be fine.
