The Yankees were expected to be a young team trying to find their footing this season. Aaron Judge has made them a playoff contender. Judge leads MLB in home runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage in this rookie year. He has also been disciplined at the plate, leading the American League with 44 walks.

His monstrous home runs have fans buzzing about baseball again, but his game is so much more than that. We might be witnessing baseball’s next superstar.

Coming off another Cy Young Award effort in 2016, Max Scherzer may become the next back-to-back winner with the year he’s having. Scherzer leads MLB with a 2.26 ERA, 134 strikeouts and allowing a .174 batting average. He is also tied for third in wins behind Clayton Kershaw and Antonio Senzatela.

Home runs are flashy, but you can’t win a championship without an ace like Scherzer. Whenever he takes the mound, he puts the Nationals in a great position to win.
