What do you get when you trust a rookie team executive to delicately recruit a highly-coveted star? Tampering, apparently. Johnson's inexperience finally caught up to him with the Indiana Pacers alleging that the Los Angeles Lakers tampered in pursuit of George. Johnson may have been able to navigate the dance that is recruitment, but being he still doesn't know the ins and outs of his first executive position.

He was pretty brazen when talked about tampering during a Jimmy Kimmel interview that could be the cause of the investigation. It isn't completely farfetched to think he could have tampered.

Whether the NBA wants to acknowledge it or not, teams and players tamper constantly in the league. When a player goes to social media to recruit, or negotiating before free agency officially opens, that is all considered tampering. And yet, no one punishes a player for going to social media, or goes after teams for back channeling a free agent signing. All of a sudden, it's wrong Johnson talked to George? Something smells fishy.

This situation reeks of the Indiana Pacers being upset its former star player wanted out to play in Los Angeles. So, the team ratted out the Lakers for doing something every team in the NBA is guilty of, but never punished for. Sour grapes should not be a reason a team is investigated for tampering.
