Are critics being too harsh on Gabby Douglas, or has she not been an Olympic team player? | The Tylt
Before every major sporting event it's a custom to play the national anthem of the players involved. In the U.S. it's not required to do anything, but most people stand and put their hands over their hearts. At the Rio Olympics, U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas stood and folded her hands politely. Some thought her gesture was disrespectful, but others say it's no big deal, and Gabby later apologized.
But that's not all: Gabby is being criticized for not celebrating Simone Biles' gold medal and Aly Raisman's silver medal wins. While Team USA jumped to their feet, Gabby did not. Even her fans and occasional defenders blasted her for not being a team player. Others are ride-or-die Gabby fans; they feel critics are making a big fuss out of nothing.
Are any of these criticisms of Gabby warranted? Or do the haters just need to take a seat?
