Basketball is supposed to be a sport of teamwork, but AAU basketball has made it a game of selfish play. College recruiters use AAU to assess talent, giving kids more incentive to show off to try and sacrifice good fundamentals to impress those scouts. And anytime a player gets some hype, they become entitled, thinking they deserve all the attention which carries over into college and even the pros.

There is also the toxic culture of these coaches exploiting these kids for their own personal gain, getting gifts from agents and companies to gain access to certain players. Basketball would be so much better without AAU poisoning the sport and the young kids who play it.

Are there problems with AAU? Sure, but that doesn't mean it's ruining the sport. In fact, it probably adds to the accessibility, allowing kids another avenue to build a rapport with scouts and recruiters.

Not only do the kids benefit from having more eyes on them, it's great for fans who want to see the best of the best compete against one another for some breathtaking basketball. AAU serves a purpose. It isn't ruining the sport.
