Will the U.K. regret leaving the European Union?

The United Kingdom has triggered Article 50, which means the U.K. can now formally begin negotiating its exit from the European Union. Prime Minister Theresa May called it a "historic moment from which there can be no turning back." Many Britons are thrilled Brexit has finally begun, but others are expressing fear and doubt about the future. Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said Mrs. May was "leaping into the abyss without any idea of where our country will end up." Will the U.K. regret Brexit? 🇬🇧

A recent survey found that if the Brexit were held today, "Remain" would win. At the Washington Post, Robert J. Samuelson called the decision to leave the EU’s common market (in which goods, capital, and labor flow freely across borders) "economic suicide."

But the Telegraph says "the country has a lot to look forward to with Brexit."

Britain will finally be able to control its borders again. It will no longer have to listen to meddlesome EU judges, nor will it need to obey the tsunami of directives emanating from Brussels. Britain will be able to make its own laws, set its own taxes and negotiate its own trade deals.
Britain will in fact be all the more powerful as it will have one thing few European nations enjoy: the freedom to decide its own destiny.
