Could July's Republican National Convention be a total disaster? | The Tylt
A headline in Wednesday morning's Washington Post asks "Who will show up? Who will pay? The many unknowns of the GOP convention."
Is the Republican National Convention going to be a total disaster?
According to the Post:
"With less than three weeks to go, Donald Trump’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland is poised to be the most chaotic GOP gathering of the modern era."
Problems are proliferating. Delegates are threatening to rebel against the Trump nomination. Corporate sponsors are pulling out. Establishment party leaders—including Mitt Romney, John McCain and the entire Bush family—are skipping the convention in silent protest of Trump's nomination.
White supremacists are planning to show up at the convention to "make sure that the Donald Trump supporters are defended from the leftist thugs." Anti-Trump protesters are sure to be in the mix as well.
Defenders of the convention say it's far too early to criticize, and that the schedule and funding are still coming together. Plus, sports legends like Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, former Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight and NASCAR chief Brian France are slated to speak. The 2016 National Convention CEO Jeff Larson told ABC News, "We’re going to have just a stunning convention." And let's face it: political conventions can be numbingly boring and staged. Surely viewership of this convention will be off the charts simply because everyone will want to see what's going to happen.
Lastly, the fractured Republican Party may actually pull together by July. As Indiana delegate Craig Dunn put it, “The only one real consistent thing is that what unites us is that we believe Hillary Clinton is a thoroughly corrupt person.”
They've got until July 18.
Do you think the #RNCWillBeChaos or #RNCWillBeOK?
