Will Donald Trump make it through his first term? | The Tylt
Newsweek reports only 34 percent of Americans approve of the job President Trump is doing. No president has ever had approval ratings this dismal so early in his first term. Between Trump's myriad ethical conflicts, the FBI investigation into the 2016 election, and unprecedented White House chaos, many pundits believe Trump will resign or be impeached before 2020. But how many times was Trump's demise predicted during the primaries? He has proven himself a master political survivor. Will he make it through his first term?
Will Donald Trump make it through his first term?
The Hill's Masood Akhtar argues it's only a matter of time before Trump resigns:
Trump is only surviving because his base is still with him. As soon as his base recognizes that they are not going to get what he promised on the campaign trail, they will eventually stop supporting him, and his approval ratings will sink to an unprecedented low. I predict that will be the time when he will resign. He must know that the campaign to impeach him has already begun.
On the other hand, how many times has the establishment counted Donald Trump out?
His campaign was ridiculed as a joke. Then, when he won the Republican nomination, people dismissed the idea he could even win the presidency. He's proven himself more politically astute than the entire mainstream media, and is playing a completely different game. Trump has suffered low moments before, but always bounced back triumphant—his supporters say this challenge is no different.
The Trump Train isn't having it. The president's naysayers were wrong when he was a long-shot candidate, and they are wrong now.
Republican strategist Rick Wilson points out that Trump's campaign success has not translated well into governing. He can't bully, rally, or insult his way into passing legislation or working with other world leaders. He simply doesn't have the knowledge, the attention span, or the interest required to do this job.
Trump's campaign ties to Russia look worse and worse every week, and the FBI investigation is ongoing. When Fox News is saying such charges could lead to impeachment? That's bad news for Trump.
