Critics of the walkout not only felt it was disrespectful to Vice President Pence, but unfair to the thousands of other graduates whose commencement ceremony was disrupted. Many of the remaining students and their families booed the walkouts.

Walking out on their graduation is not challenging anything, and it is barely a protest. They are children, throwing tantrums because they don’t think people listen to their opinions enough.
This is just one more case of snowflakes showing us why they are really not fit to graduate to the real world.

The students, who organized We Stand ForND, issued a press release claiming Mike Pence's actions directly contradict Catholic social teachings and values:

During his time as governor of the state of Indiana and now as Vice President, Pence targeted the civil rights protections of members of the LGBT+ community, rejected the Syrian refugee resettlement program, supported an unconstitutional ban on religious minorities, and fought against sanctuary cities. All of these policies marginalized our vulnerable sisters and brothers for their religion, skin color, or sexual orientation.

But critics said the students' actions were inappropriate and disrespectful, and indicative of closed-mindedness found at many American college campuses.

Others applauded the walkout, and said that not all viewpoints warrant respect.
