Can you be both conservative and pro-choice?

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren was famously fired from The Blaze after she called pro-life conservatives hypocrites on "The View." Some conservatives say being both pro-choice and conservative is fundamentally incompatible—you can't respect an individual's political platform if that platform refutes an individual's right to life. But Tomi Lahren and others disagree. The government should not make choices for anybody, and that includes choices about a woman's body. What do you think?

Tomi Lahren caused a firestorm last year when she admitted she was pro-choice on "The View."

“I am a constitutional, y’know, someone that loves the Constitution,” the 24-year-old commentator told the left-leaning regular co-hosts in a guest appearance. "I’m someone that’s for limited government," she said.
“So I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies," she added. "I can sit here and say that as a Republican and I can say, you know what, I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.”

A staunch conservative, Lahren argued it would be hypocritical to claim to support small government while arguing the government should make choices about women's bodies. Watch the full interview here:

But many include the belief that life begins at conception and must be protected is a cornerstone of conservatism. Peter Heck argues in The Resurgent that being pro-life is a fundamental conservative value, and Lahren has a fundamental misunderstanding about the Constitution.

This is so mindlessly incoherent that Glenn Beck should be humiliated he has given this poser such a platform of prominence. Not just because he’s promoted someone who finds it morally acceptable to kill children for convenience (though that’s plenty good enough), but because she demonstrates such a childish misunderstanding of natural law and constitutional theory.
The great conservatives have always understood that the intrinsic worth of the individual was the foundation point of all we believe and espouse. Without the right to life, there is no liberty, and there is no happiness to pursue.
