Are taxes an investment in communities or an unfair government money grab?

Taxes have long been a point of contention, and some argue they are a fundamentally unfair way for the government to take money from citizens. Libertarians believe individuals shouldn't be taxed on the money they make, and should instead get to make their own decisions about how that money is spent. But taxes are meant to be invested in communities into things like education, transportation, emergency services and public parks. Do you think taxes are unfair? 🏞️

Without taxes, we wouldn't have parks, public education, emergency services or public transportation. Taxes are fundamentally meant to improve communities. By benefiting from living in a taxed society, you are agreeing to help fund that community and the easiest way to be sure everyone pays their fair share is through taxes.

Of course, nobody likes feeling like their money is being taken away, but if you use public roads, went to public school, enjoy public parks or have ever had to call on law enforcement for help, you have benefited from services provided to you with taxpayer dollars.

But many libertarians argue the private sector would do a better job at providing community services, and at a lower cost. And what if an individual never uses public services, should they still have to pay taxes?

Given the number of wasteful things the government spends taxpayer money on—such as military spending—many believe individuals should get to make their own decisions about how their money is spent. America has a D+ in infrastructure. If taxes are meant to improve communities, they're doing a terrible job.
