Do you support President Trump?

President Trump has repeatedly said and done racist things while carrying out his duties as the President of the United States. The most recent egregious action is a call to stop all immigration—a far-right fantasy—as part of efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak in the United States. While a Twitter decree does not translate into actual law, the effort reflects a repeated antipathy towards immigrants and refugees—especially from non-white nations. The split between Americans is no longer Democrat and Republican, but those who recognize Trump's unique danger to the United States—and those who support Trump and see opportunities to further their far-right agendas. Trump's supporters say President Trump is doing exactly what they voted him in to do—he's doing all the things normal politicians are too afraid to do. In their eyes, he's doing great. He's been opposed every step of the way despite fairly winning the election in 2016.

A drug touted as something akin to a miracle by President Trump was found to be more harmful than beneficial in one study. Trump's endorsement of a cure based on his gut feeling instead of scientific evidence shows the type of leader he is. While more research needs to be done, here's what this particular study found:

About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.

President Trump has failed to show basic levels of leadership during this crisis. Instead, he has doubled down on his antagonistic, racist and inappropriate behavior. He is unpresidential and dangerous.

One of Trump's loudest supporters on Twitter, Bill Mitchell succinctly frames what Trump and the upcoming election means for Trump supporters. They view Trump's actions on coronavirus so far as positive. Most importantly, they see Trump's reelection in terms of the Supreme Court and judicial nominations—supporting Trump is more important than just the man himself.
