After text messages from an FBI agent referring to President Trump as an "utter idiot" were released, critics of special counsel Robert Mueller have argued this proves the investigation into Trump is biased and Mueller should be shut down. Trump allies have long questioned Mueller's integrity and called for his resignation. But others say firing Mueller would be a virtual admission of guilt by the president, and Mueller should be allowed to do his job and complete the investigation. What do you think?

After text messages from an FBI agent referring to President Trump as a "douche" and an "utter idiot" were released, critics of special counsel Robert Mueller have argued this proves the investigation into Trump is biased. If the FBI isn't running an impartial probe into the president, as Trump's defenders argue, Mueller should be removed from his post.

As others have noted, the team Mueller has put together looks less like a bunch of objective legal investigators and more like a gang of political hit-men. A number are contributors to the Democratic Party and to Hillary Clinton.
Mueller should be fired, Comey reprimanded, and the investigation shut down. More and more, it looks as if this has nothing to do with justice, and everything to do with a group of rogue bureaucrats trying to get Trump impeached.

Defenders of Mueller argue if Trump shuts the investigation down, he's essentially admitting guilt and committing obstruction of justice. Mueller has proven to be impartial and reliable. After FBI agent Peter Strzok sent the aforementioned text messages about the president, he was immediately let go.

This hysterical campaign Republicans are now waging against Mueller and the FBI is being hung mostly on the fact that an agent named Peter Strzok, who had been working for Mueller, sent texts during the 2016 campaign to his girlfriend, a Justice Department attorney, in which they said uncomplimentary things about Trump. As soon as Mueller discovered that, he had Strzok reassigned.

Paul Waldman argues in The Washington Post that conservatives are scrambling for any excuse to shut down the investigation precisely because it has been so apolitical.

In the end, what matters is what Robert Mueller’s investigation produces. So far, there hasn’t been a shred of evidence that it has been anything but professional. Perhaps the indictments and plea bargains he has obtained so far will be the end of the story, and he’ll conclude that there was no further wrongdoing, particularly on the president’s part. But the possibility that he’ll find a great deal more — and present it with unimpeachable evidence — is precisely what has Republicans in such a panic.

Critics still believe the FBI is too anti-Trump to fairly do its job.

But others warn any attempt to undermine Mueller, the investigation or the FBI is a purely partisan attack.
