Before she became press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was praised by many as being significantly more articulate than Sean Spicer. But since Huckabee Sanders has settled into her role, she has gotten under people's skin so much so that they are longing for the days of Sean Spicer. Sure his press briefings were riddled with gaffes and stupefying untruths, but at least he provided comedy gold for Melissa McCarthy. What do you think?

As deputy press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders would occasionally sit in for Sean Spicer, providing a sharp contrast from Spicer's bumbling. As Callum Borchers writes in The Washington Post, Sanders has the "ability to lower the temperature in situations where" Sean Spicer "tends to run hot."

To be clear: Sanders doesn’t give journalists the warm and fuzzies. These are not glowing reviews. But they are a tip of the hat to Sanders for keeping her cool under pressure and at least delivering her snark with a deft touch, rather than a cudgel.
Under pressure, Spicer seemed rattled, while Sanders seemed in-control.

Sanders received praise from many journalists for keeping a cool head under pressure early on, and when she eventually took over as press secretary, some were hopeful the days of sparring in the press briefings would be over.

But even though Sanders is still better spoken than her predecessor, many have come to believe she is actually much worse than Spicer. Clio Chang argues in the New Republic while Sanders "style as press secretary is less shrill than Spicer," she is "the most insidious of them all."

Where Spicer sputtered and The Mooch sleazed, Sanders is more in line with what you would expect of a professional press relations person. She is a little muted, a little dead-eyed, yes, but she is also less aggressive, less condescending, less startlingly terrible. She speaks in a slow and deliberate southern accent, often gracing her speech with rueful smiles. But in essence, Sanders is the same as her predecessors. She lies. She thinks her job is to discredit the news media, not to answer the public’s questions. Above all, she provides cover for her racist, despotic boss.

Supporters of Sarah Huckabee Sanders applaud her for her strength when dealing with the press.

Even those who don't like Sarah Huckabee Sanders admit she is better than Spicer was.

But some miss the Spicey days. Spicer's flubs made him surprisingly endearing to many and felt he was given an impossible job trying to defend President Trump.

And others have warmed up to Spicey after months of watching Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
