Are the investigations into Donald Trump heroic or modern day McCarthyism?

As the investigation into Donald Trump continues in relative secrecy, the public is left to speculate wildly. The latest hot takes come from two Trump allies who have come to very different conclusions. Ty Cobb, a former White House lawyer who served as Donald Trump's lead attorney, said he believes Robert Mueller is an "American hero." Sean Hannity, the president's favorite nightly phone call, called the House investigation "modern-day McCarthyism." What do you think?

Sean Hannity used his show as a chance to rail against the newly animated House investigation into the president and his company. Hannity claimed Democrats were on a McCarthy-esque mission to take down the president in order to "institute socialism," a somewhat bizarre logical leap as McCarthy's specific mission was to stamp out all socialism in the country. Per the Hill

"Is what you’re seeing from the new far-left Democratic Party good for you, good for your family?" Hannity asked in the opening monologue of his Fox News program. "Well, I think the answer will be obvious because, just like I have told you in the past, once Democrats’ collusion hysteria is exposed as a fraud, they wouldn’t apologize, they wouldn’t admit they’re wrong."
"They were just going to pivot into investigating anything they make up and everything involving the president. We the people will now be subject to the biggest, most gruesome display of modern-day McCarthyism," Hannity continued, referencing a campaign former Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis.) launched in the 1950s against alleged communists in government and society.

Ty Cobb, the former White House lawyer, took a very different point of view. Cobb told the ABC News podcast "The Investigation" he feels Robert Mueller is a man of honor, conducting his investigation with a great deal of care. While Cobb acknowledged he wished the investigation had "happened on a quicker timetable," he found no fault in the investigator himself.

“I think Bob Mueller's an American hero … even though he came from an, arguably, privileged background, he has a backbone of steel. He walked into a firefight in Vietnam to pull out one of his injured colleagues and was appropriately honored for that. I've known him for 30 years as a prosecutor and a friend. And I think the world of Bob Mueller. He is a very deliberate guy. But he's also a class act. And a very justice-oriented person.”
