Vice President Pence adopted a puppy and kitten to add to his collection of pets, which has many people asking: Why doesn't President Trump own any pets?

Sunny and Bo Obama were universally adored and made for some darling photo ops. George W. Bush's beloved Scottish terrier Barney also led to some adorable videos that enjoyed bipartisan adoration.

President Trump's decision to not have a canine friend in the White House has drawn scrutiny from both sides of the aisle, and many think the president should get a dog for a number of reasons:

  • Presidential dogs charm diplomats
  • Dogs make a president more likable
  • Dogs are America's favorite pet
  • Presidential dogs make for adorable headlines

Some believe the fact that President Trump is not a dog person says a lot about his character. Trump has often insulted his opponents by calling them dogs and appears to have a general disdain for man's best friend.

Others have argued dogs "generally improve ones health," which is important for any president considering the level of stress they're constantly under.

But a lot of people don't think President Trump should get a dog. He's obviously not a dog person and forcing him to adopt one would only mean neglect for the furry friend.

And many still think President Trump has a temperament problem. If he's unfit to be president, he's probably unfit to own a dog.
