Should we feel sorry for Melania Trump?

Melania Trump has had a rough time as First Lady. The media has spotlighted President Trump's less-than-chivalrous treatment of her and ripped on her fashion choices at disaster sites. Now Donald's first wife Ivana Trump is snatching Melania's edges. Supporters say the First Lady is a private person doing her best to adjust to a high-profile role she never wanted. Critics call her ridiculous, and say she deserves scorn for enabling her husband. Do you feel bad for Melania? 👠

A video of the First Lady on Inauguration Day went viral, and inspired the hashtag #FreeMelania.

Others argue the Melania media pile-on is just unseemly. Her every choice and move are scrutinized. Aren't there better things for us to focus our energy on?

Ivana Trump, the president's first wife, took a totally unprompted shot at Melania during an interview with ABC News. What did she do to deserve that insult?

Asked how often Ivana speaks with her ex-husband, she...admitted she's reluctant to call him too often.
"I don't really want to call him there because Melania is there, and I don't want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that," Ivana said, laughing. "Because I'm basically first Trump wife, okay? I'm first lady, okay?"

But then Melania's spokesperson fired back immediately, accusing Ivana of making "self-serving noise" in an attempt to hustle her book. Many saw the sarcastic response as bad optics, beneath the First Lady.

Her critics say Melania has done nothing to dignify her office. She's feuding with the president's first wife, dressing like a runway model to tour disaster areas and going through the motions of a cyber-bullying campaign while her husband threatens nuclear war on Twitter. Don't pity her: pity the nation.

But others say Trump haters should not transfer their feelings about the president to his wife—she's an innocent bystander here.

Would you want to be Donald Trump's third wife?

She never wanted this role, and anyone would be uncomfortable with this kind of scrutiny.

But others say she publicly supported Trump's birther lie as well as excusing his bragging about sexual assault—she's not that innocent.
