Where would you rather spend the holidays—the Overlook Hotel or the White House?

First Lady Melania Trump unveiled her White House Christmas decorations and, yet again, the extravagant set-up seems to be eliciting more of an "AAAAH OH DEAR GOD WHAT IS THAT" than intended. Between the wreaths of sharpened pencils inscribed with "Be Best" (the "OR ELSE" is implied) and looming pines dripped in blood, we had to wonder, what's a better place to spend the holidays—the ice-cold halls of the Trump White House or the labyrinthine, haunted rooms of the Overlook Hotel? Choose your nightmare fuel!

Perhaps the sight of a black wool-and-leather clad figure wandering into a hall overwhelmingly filled with pines is not the most settling soothing festive image in the world. But look, Melania tried!

These decorations seem to be, at least, celebrating the holiday season and not the last rattling gasps of dying plants and animals, clawing desperately towards an unfeeling gray sky, like some scene from "The Road." Which was apparently the theme last year. So there's been progress!

Oh, wait! Wait, we had not seen this yet. This is horrifying. Remember that scene in Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" when Johnny Depp has to chop at a creepy old tree and the tree is filled with blood and not sap? This is what happened if that tree decided to be true to itself and live out loud.

This whole scene looks familiar. Where could we have seen this before...?

Oh right! At the Overlook Hotel!

It just feels right.

Melania appears to have taken cues from the decorator of the Overlook Hotel, so why not just spend your holidays there? Yes, the Overlook is haunted by a myriad of malevolent ghosts and demons set on breaking your spirit and all the bonds that tie humans together. That's very true. But the White House is currently being tormented by... witches? Which is pretty bad, as well! According to President Trump:

The Mueller Witch Hunt is a total disgrace. They are looking at supposedly stolen Crooked Hillary Clinton Emails (even though they don’t want to look at the DNC Server), but have no interest in the Emails that Hillary DELETED & acid washed AFTER getting a Congressional Subpoena!

Hunting witches and "acid washing" seems much worse than some sullen pre-teens wanting to play with you forever.

Glamour writer R. Eric Thomas described the White House's decorations as, among other things:

Merr-e. coli
A Yankee Candle store in the East Hell mall
Lot's Wife if she turned into cayenne pepper instead of salt
The movie Carrie but festive. Mariah Carrie!
Mariah Carrie seems like a fun crossover! We'd watch that. Maybe spending the holidays in the White House wouldn't be half bad!

The Overlook has a fully stocked bar full of all your ghost friends and a live band, which is something to consider when deciding which haunting, ice cold, palatial estate you're going to spend your holidays in.

According to the Washington Post, the White House decorations had the potential to be far more frightening.

[T]he hallway of arterial-red stalagmites — which we are told are actually berry-covered trees — look less sinister in an artist’s rendering, which is how they first appear in the video first lady Melania Trump released Monday, as the White House unveiled its holiday decorations.
We should enjoy what we got! Which is.... just mildly bone-chilling!

Ultimately though, it's best to spend your holidays at the Overlook soaking in its scenic views. Because if you believe science and facts, you won't be able to enjoy it for much longer.
