Should Oprah run for president? | The Tylt
Oprah Winfrey's impassioned, scene-stealing speech at the Golden Globes has everyone abuzz with talk that she may run for president in 2020—especially now that Donald Trump has proven you don't need prior government experience to get the job. But skeptics argue our 45th president has proven how much television does not prepare you to be the leader of the free world. Should Oprah run? 🙋🏾

We know she'd be a rousing speaker who could fill stadiums.
Let me tell you this room is still vibrating like electricity from that speech. #OPRAH #micdrop #TimesUp #MeToo #GoldenGlobes

And many say Oprah could reach across the aisle.
My husband voted for George HW Bush (once) and George W Bush (twice) and just said, “I’d vote for #Oprah for President.” #goldenglobes

I haven't heard someone sound that presidential since January 19th, 2017.#GoldenGlobes #TimesUP #Oprah

But others say the last year has taught us an epic lesson—presidents should have political experience. Don't do it, Oprah!
Oprah’s speech was straight 🔥 but hasn’t this year been a lesson in “presidents need to be fluent in policy & experienced governance” /1

We've got experienced public servants ready to take the wheel. Let's leave the highest office in the land to people who didn't give us Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz.
Thank You, all these Oprah, Dwayne Johnson takes. I'm sure they are great, intelligent people; but POTUS isn't the place for on the job training. For every one Oprah, there's a Kamala, Kirsten, or Klobuchar. For every The Rock, there's a Booker, Schiff, Lieu or Swalwell

Oprah is a perfect case study of how you can be an amazing, accomplished, admirable human being but also probably not a great choice for president.

But Michael Moore is all about Oprah running. He thinks Democrats need to take a page from the Republican playbook and field candidates who are already popular in media and entertainment—like Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sonny Bono.
