Is the NRA a terrorist organization?

More than a dozen companies have cut ties with the NRA in the wake of the Florida school shooting, and the FBI is investigating whether the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the gun lobby to help Donald Trump win the presidency. Many have labeled the NRA as a terrorist organization due to its complicity in mass murder, and potentially conspiring with a foreign adversary doesn't help. But others argue it is unfair to blame millions of law-abiding gun owners for the actions of a few disturbed individuals. What do you think? ☠️

More than a dozen companies have stopped doing business with the National Rifle Association (NRA) in wake of the Florida school shooting that left 17 dead. Gun control activists flooded social media to pressure companies like Delta, Hertz, and TrueCar to cut ties with the gun lobby.

Before last week, membership in the National Rifle Association meant gaining access to a broad range of discounts. From special rates on auto insurance policies to cheaper flights when you booked through its website, the NRA's discount program offered a lot of perks.
But in the wake of a massacre at a Florida high school on February 14, activists flooded social media with calls to end corporate partnerships with America's most powerful gun lobby. Since Thursday, more than a dozen brands severed ties with the organization.

The FBI is also investigating whether the NRA illegally funneled Kremlin money to help Donald Trump win the 2016 presidential election. The NRA reported they spent $55 million on the 2016 election with $30 million directly supporting Trump. This is triple what the organization devoted to backing Mitt Romney in 2012.

Between potentially conspiring with a foreign adversary and its complicity in mass murder, many believe the NRA should be labeled a terrorist organization.

Former MSNBC and ESPN journalist Keith Olbermann ripped into the NRA in a viral video for "enabling" massacres after the Las Vegas mass shooting left 58 dead and over 500 injured. Olbermann called on the U.S. to brand the NRA "for what it is... a terrorist organization."

But Olbermann wasn't the first to label the NRA as a terrorist organization. After the Orlando massacre, an op-ed in The New York Times argued the NRA was at the very least "complicit in terrorism."

Few places on earth make it easier than the United States for a terrorist to buy assault weapons to mow down scores of people in a matter of minutes... this is made vastly easier by a gun lobby that has blocked sensible safety measures at every turn, and by members of Congress who seem to pledge greater allegiance to the firearms industry than to their own constituencies. There is a word for their role in this form of terrorism: complicity.

Many support the notion that the NRA is a terrorist organization that enables murderers. And the revelations of a possible Russia connection only compounds this belief.

But the NRA has no intention to back down just because a few companies stopped giving their members discounts.

And nany have pushed back against the accusation that the NRA is anything like a terrorist organization, believing it is wrong to suggest the NRA and its members condone the actions of mass murderers.
