Does the Democratic Party need new leadership?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she plans to run for speaker if Democrats win back Congress in 2018, but some believe Democrats should embrace new blood instead. The GOP has spent years attacking Pelosi, why give Republican voters any more ammo? Plus, many argue the current leadership is out-of-touch. But others insist Democrats should stand by Pelosi. Republicans only hate her because she's good at her job. Do you think the Democratic Party needs new leadership?

Nancy Pelosi is confident Democrats will take back the House in 2018, and plans to run for speaker again when it happens.

"We will win," the California Democrat said in an interview with The Boston Globe on the 2018 elections. "I will run for speaker. I feel confident about it. And my members do, too."

Pelosi was challenged unsuccessfully in 2016 by Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) who argued Democrats needed new leadership, and others in the party like Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) think it's time for Pelosi "to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders."

But many have come to Pelosi's defense. The fact of the matter is, she's good at her job, and that's why Republicans have attacked her so vociferously for years.

And sexism plays a huge role in the perception of Pelosi. Why would Democrats give into misogyny?

But the fact of the matter is that the Democratic Party still hasn't recovered from the 2016 election. A bitter primary divided Democrats, and the only way forward may be fresh blood.

The current Democratic leadership has grown out-of-touch with what the voters want. The liberal wing of the party wants leaders who are committed to progressive values and opposing Trump at all costs.
