Should we lower the voting age to 16?

The voting age in America was lowered from 21 to 18 during the Vietnam War, and in the wake of the Parkland school massacre, many argue we should lower it to 16. Protesting Florida teenagers say they're being targeted in school shootings, yet they have no say in gun legislation. Others point out that teenagers who work pay taxes, so they should be allowed to vote. But some say 16- and 17-year-olds lack the judgment and maturity to make voting decisions. Should we lower the voting age? 🗳️

But many on the right scoff at the idea that teenage activists would be given the right to vote.

And former Hill staffer Austin Frank argues the age of voting should be higher than it is. Kids just don't understand the issues.

It’s a maturity thing. Most young voters simply aren’t emotionally stable and mature enough to be entrusted with a presidential election vote, and also lack skin in the game (income, assets, career, etc.)
