Should Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg retire?

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—aka the Notorious R.B.G.—is somewhat of a celebrity among liberals, and as rumors swirled about whether or not she will retire, the 84-year-old hired staff through 2020. Many are ecstatic that Ginsburg plans to stay on the Court until a Democratic president can appoint her successor. But others argue Ginsburg needs to retire. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—or the "Notorious R.B.G."—is considered a rock star to many liberals. The 84-year-old justice is one of the more liberal justices on the court and has a history of badassery. After rumors swirled about her possible retirement, she hired law clerks through 2020, signaling to President Trump that she isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Ginsburg, affectionately known by her fans as the “Notorious RBG,” has already hired four clerks for the October 2018 term and four clerks for the October 2019 term, which ends in June 2020, according to CNN. The news hints that Ginsburg is planning to stay on for the coinciding terms.

But Trump has long urged Ginsburg to retire, especially after she made critical comments about him.

Others believe at 84-years-old, it's just time for her to go. It is a reality that cognitive function declines after an individual turns 70, and Ginsburg may no longer have the mental capacity to serve on the Court.
