Would you rather eat Butter Cows with Rolls or Hot Beef Sundaes?

As the congressional calendar draws to a close, Senator Joni Ernst gathered her GOP colleagues together for an Iowa-themed lunch. While some of the items on the menu were familiar to non-Iowans—tater tots, ice cream, street corn—other items had people a bit more confused. Washington Post reporter Seung Min KIm got a copy of the menu and posted it online, causing chaos on Twitter as people wondered desperately what hot beef sundaes and butter cows with rolls could possibly be. Would you eat either of these Iowa delicacies?

According to some helpful Iowans, a hot beef sundae is not the least appetizing thing in a middle school cafeteria, nor is it a bizarre euphemism. It is, in fact, mashed potatoes, sour cream, shredded beef and gravy. While that does sound delicious, the name is hard to get past.

On the other hand, would you really want to eat this adorable butter cow? It looks more like a toy to give to a teething toddler than a useful way to get a condiment onto bread!
