Who will win West Virginia's Senate seat: Joe Manchin or Patrick Morrisey?

We're less than six months away from the 2018 midterm elections, and Democrats and Republicans are fighting to make sure things shake out in their favor. Incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin is in big trouble—Trump defeated Clinton in West Virginia by over 40 points in 2016. Challenger Patrick Morrisey is confident this is the year Republicans will win in West Virginia, but Democrats feel they can hold on to the Appalachian state. Can Republicans flip West Virginia?

Incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin is in a tough spot going into 2018, but Democrats are confident the West Virginia Senator of eight years will be triumphant in November. Manchin is still leading challenger Patrick Morrisey by double digits, and has walked a fine line when it comes to his support of President Trump, even though he's a Democrat.

Manchin campaign spokesperson Grant Herring told The Tylt:

"Joe Manchin is one of the most centrist, independent members of the United States Senate. He always tries to work with both parties to get things done. He's working hard to create jobs and skills training centers, and new opportunities for young leaders."

But Manchin is unique in his ability to anger both Democrats and Republicans, which is why Patrick Morrisey believes he will beat the incumbent in 2018. West Virginia is Trump country, and state attorney general Morrisey hasn't wavered in his support of the president and his commitment to "drain the swamp."

The Patrick Morrisey campaign describes him as a "consistent conservative and advocate of the rule of law":

"A consistent conservative and advocate of the rule of law, Morrisey worked with a coalition of states to defeat Obama’s unlawful amnesty program. More recently, he led a 10-state effort to support President Trump’s anti-sanctuary city policy."

"Morrisey fights for the little guy and stands up for the most vulnerable. One hundred percent pro-life and a champion of religious liberty, his work helped pave the way for passage of the Pain-Capable law and for several key victories against the Obama administration’s assault on religious freedom."
