Should Congress really be investigating Jill Stein?

The Senate Intelligence Committee is investigating Jill Stein and her campaign for possible collusion with Russian state actors during the 2016 presidential race. The Green Party candidate vehemently denied any wrongdoing, and Stein's defenders say this inquiry is just modern-day McCarthyism. But her critics say we have a right to know why she had dinner with Vladimir Putin and Mike Flynn, and why Russia advertised her campaign on Facebook. Does Jill Stein deserve to be investigated? 🌻 🇷🇺

The Votes Are In!

Her seat at Vladimir Putin's table with disgraced Gen. Mike Flynn at a 2015 dinner has long raised questions about her loyalties.

Stein released a statement Monday night defending her campaign’s transparency and integrity, and implied she and her campaign are being targeted unfairly by "the political establishment."

“Our communications with Russian indiviuals regarding an invitation to speak on international relations at the RT 10th anniversary media conference will confirm what we stated publicly at that time and since: that we did not accept any payment or even reimbursement for the trip,” Stein said.

Ajamu Baraka, Stein's vice presidential running mate, emailed a statement to Russia Today blasting the investigation as a "neo-McCarthyist assault on the freedom of thought and speech."

"It can be seen as both a warning shot against third party challenges and a cynical move by the state and corporate sector to limit the range of information and acceptable opinion reaching the US public – a win-win for the ruling elite."

Stein is loathed by many on the left, who say her demonization of Hillary Clinton and spoiler candidacy helped Trump win. They've also critiqued her close ties with RT, the news outlet formerly known as Russia Today, considered by many foreign-policy experts to be a Kremlin propaganda tool.

She's been accused of being of a witting or unwitting pawn of the right since the presidential election.

But many say liberal anger at Stein is wildly misplaced and out of control, and that they're just pulling out the pitchforks because they blame her for Hillary's loss. There is no proof whatsoever that Jill Stein is an agent of the Kremlin.
