We're less than six months away from the 2018 midterm elections, and Democrats and Republicans are fighting to make sure things shake out in their favor. Republican Dean Heller is one of the most vulnerable senators in 2018, and Jacky Rosen is confident this is the year Democrats will win Nevada's Senate seat. But Heller is still convinced he will triumph November. Can Democrats turn Nevada blue?

Incumbent Republican Dean Heller is one of the least popular Senators in the country and Democrats are coming for his seat. Hillary Clinton won Nevada in 2016 and the state has been trending blue for a while now. Jacky Rosen is a congresswoman currently representing Nevada's 3rd district, and she's challenging Heller to become Nevada's Senator in 2018.

Rosen for Nevada spokesperson Molly Forgey told The Tylt:

"This is Democrats’ best chance to flip a Republican-held Senate seat in 2018, and Jacky Rosen will win this race because she fights tirelessly for all Nevadans. In Congress, she's been working to ensure full LGBTQ equality, to protect Dreamers and immigrant families, to combat the threat of climate change, to make college more affordable, to keep our communities safe from gun violence, to get big money out of politics, and to expand access to affordable health care."
"On the other hand, Republican Sen. Dean Heller has spent the last year caving to President Trump's agenda - breaking his promise to protect Nevadans’ health care, voting to defund Planned Parenthood, helping write the GOP’s irresponsible tax bill, and opposing bipartisan solutions to protect Dreamers. Jacky is a problem solver who knows how to work across the aisle, leads by example to fix the broken system in Washington, and will always put Nevada first - that's why she'll win this race and flip this seat in November."

But Dean Heller is also confident he will hold on to his seat in 2018. Despite the fact that he and Rosen are tied in the polls, Democrats are relying on a supposed "Blue Wave" that could never come. Heller has walked a fine line when it comes to his support of President Trump, and Republicans tend to do better in midterm elections anyway.

Dean Heller is a huge advocate for tax reform and champions the Republican tax bill as a marker of his success:

"My goal has always been to make sure that Americans keep more of their hard-earned money. Lower tax rates will allow businesses to hire, invest, and expand — creating jobs in our communities and boosting growth around our state and across the country."

"The Obama-era mindset of increasing taxes and over regulating small businesses stifled job growth in Nevada and impeded our nation’s ability to provide businesses and workers the tools they need to compete in a global marketplace. But that era is over."

"Now, we’re heading in a direction that is better for Nevadans and Americans across the nation, and although we’ve made significant progress, there is still more work to do."
