Is Ivanka Trump a fake feminist? | The Tylt
Ivanka Trump has consistently cast herself as a champion of women—promising to fight for issues like equal pay and paid family leave. But after praising Oprah in a tweet for her "inspiring speech" about women, many are calling Ivanka a hypocrite. Ivanka supported a plan to end an Obama-era policy aimed at closing the gender pay gap and has done little to advocate for women while in the White House. It has many asking whether Ivanka is a real feminist or a fake one. What do you think? 🚺

After Oprah gave her powerful speech at the Golden Globes, Ivanka praised Oprah for her "empowering & inspiring" words and urged women and men to "all come together."
Just saw @Oprah's empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes. Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP! #United https://t.co/vpxUBJnCl7

Many immediately called out what they view as Ivanka's hypocrisy.
This is the most hypocritical, clueless statement in her regrettable time in the WH. Your father has a trail of victims and supported Roy Moore, Ivanka. YOU are indeed part of the problem Ivanka. #complicit

For a woman whose father faces multiple allegations of sexual assault and harassment this is quite the tweet. https://t.co/WurDJ4KoQe

But others jumped to her defense.
Don’t listen to these sad, hateful, comments Ivanka ❤️ I think it’s wonderful that you are showing support young women. These people just have nothing better to do than tear others down and make outrageous claims about anyone they don’t like.

I don't understand condemning the child for the sins of the father. I'm not a Trump supporter, but I don't think criticizing his daughter's support of Oprah's message...

In addition to her father's alleged history of sexual assault and harassment, Ivanka has also done little to advocate for women's issues since being in the White House.
Ivanka came under criticism over her support of the Trump administration's decision to end an Obama-era policy that would have required businesses to collect and report information on how much they pay their workers alongside their gender, race, and ethnicity.
The provision was an important first step in addressing the gender pay gap—and issue Ivanka has championed—yet she did support the decision of her father's administration.
Ultimately, while I believe the intention was good and agree that pay transparency is important, the proposed policy would not yield the intended results. We look forward to continuing to work with EEOC, Congress and all relevant stakeholders on robust policies aimed at eliminating the gender wage gap.
Ivanka also said nothing against the Trump's Department of Health and Human Services rolling back a mandate which required employers to cover birth control for female employees. Ivanka's consistent inability to push back against the administration's seemingly anti-woman agenda has many wondering whether her feminism is sincere.
How's that Ivanka "feminist" influence working out, eh?

But many have defended Ivanka's record as a feminist. She has spoken out forcefully against human trafficking, encouraged women to embrace their careers and donated the proceeds from her book "Women Who Work" to charity.
Is it really fair to blame her for her father's actions?
Ivanka has spoken out for women and girls multiple times during her father's administration.
Today we reaffirm the importance of empowering & investing in girls in our country & around the globe 🌎 #DayOfTheGirl pic.twitter.com/O2asth3Dz1

And continues to encourage female entrepreneurship.
Access to capital is a barrier for many women #Entrepreneurs. In 2017 @SBAgov lending to women-owned small business owners increased by $128 million from FY16. Total lending to small businesses exceeded $30.5 billion – creating more than 650K jobs. MORE to come in 2018! @SBALinda

She is still beloved by many.
Thank you for caring about truly empowering girls in our country and around the world. You're a true role model girls can look up to.
