Is the Democratic Party no longer relevant?

After crushing defeats in special elections in Georgia and South Carolina, some observers say the Democratic Party is toast. They've lost control of all three branches of government, hold less than a third of state governorships, and can't even win elections against candidates who beat up reporters and don't believe in a living wage. But others say the Democrats aren't finished yetthey're the backbone of the resistance against Trump, and will make a massive comeback in 2018. What do you think?

The enthusiasm gap between Democrats and Republicans is apparent at the polls. The party has only been able to campaign as the antithesis of Trump, but that's not enough to win elections.

Its Democratic mayors and governors who are uniting to deal with climate change and protect the people of their cities from deportation. Its Democratic Senators like Kamala Harris and Al Franken who are grilling Attorney General Jeff Sessions on his past dealings with the Russians. Democrat Adam Schiff is out in front on the Trump-Russia investigation, Chris Murphy is fighting for gun control measures, Elizabeth Warren is leading the charge on the Republicans new healthcare act.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, always a lightning rod for controversy, may be asked to step down in the wake of these recent defeats. Republicans loathe her, and many liberals blame her leadership for the party's defeats.

Others think the calls for Pelosi's head are ridiculous.

And still others on the left are sick of all the excuses, especially after losing a presidential election to a game-show host.

Others still believe.

Others think if they can get it together by the 2018 midterms, they can rebuild... but that's a big if.
