Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Justice Department would make a hard-line policy shift of separating undocumented immigrant children from their parents when detained. The punitive shift is meant to dissuade families from illegally crossing the border. Critics argue the policy of separating families at the border is both unnecessary and inhumane.
