Elizabeth Warren endorsed Clinton and Sanders' fans are furious | The Tylt
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren formally endorsed Hillary Clinton last night on The Rachel Maddow Show, and now many Bernie Sanders supporters are calling for her head.
Did Elizabeth sell out the left?
Even before she was elected to the Senate, Warren's reputation as a fighter against Wall Street and her populist, anti-corporate bona fides made her the fiery female counterpoint to Sen. Sanders. Warren remained on the sidelines during a nasty primary, not endorsing either candidate. But she consistently blasted Donald Trump.
Yesterday, the progressive icon came forward and enthusiastically endorsed Clinton for president. Sanders' supporters saw this move as a craven betrayal — not just of him, but of the progressive movement. They aren't giving up hope that Sanders could attain the nomination though. As the New York Times noted, "Beyond Mr. Sanders, no one captivates the aggrieved, angry left the way Ms. Warren does." To them, this move is treachery to the cause.
Others point out that Clinton clinched the nomination four days ago; that Warren's principled past isn't negated by endorsing the nominee of her own party; and that she's doing what any passionate progressive and team player should do to keep the country out of GOP hands.
What do you think: #WarrenSoldOut or #WarrenStillRules?
