President Donald Trump has been criticized by both Democrats and Republicans for his unpresidential behavior, and many in Washington are demanding he put more effort into being a role model now that he is in office. When asked about the president's inappropriate tweets, Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed only God is the "perfect role model," and many of Trump's supporters believe what he achieves is more important than how he behaves. Do presidents need to be role models? 🤔

Many have criticized President Trump for not behaving as a good role model. BuzzFeed News reported over 50 incidents of children evoking Trump to harass other students, and some worry President Trump's behavior is encouraging bullying across the country.

Donald Trump’s campaign and election have added an alarming twist to school bullying, with white students using the president's words and slogans to bully Latino, Middle Eastern, black, Asian, and Jewish classmates. In the first comprehensive review of post-election bullying, BuzzFeed News has confirmed more than 50 incidents, across 26 states, in which a K-12 student invoked Trump’s name or message in an apparent effort to harass a classmate during the past school year.

But others argue it is not the job of a president to be a role model, and would rather have a president who gets things done than one who worries about how children perceive him.

Some are concerned President Trump's actions, such as his inability to strongly denounce white supremacy, encourage bad behavior.

But many still argue results and policy are far more important than a president's character, and people should stop obsessing over whether or not President Trump is a good role model.

These two things are not the same. Good people can do terrible things, and bad people can produce good outcomes. The character of a person is just not as important as many hold it to be. Sometimes, their character is something to be ignored and not taken as a measure of anything serious. The little kids on my street know this. I’m surprised that nobody else does.
