A recent poll found 66 percent of Americans believe President Trump is doing more to divide the country than unite it. But Trump's defenders argue it was President Obama who created the great divide in America, and Trump is just trying to pick up the pieces. What do you think? 🤔

A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll found 66 percent of Americans believe President Trump is doing more to divide the country than unite it. Brent D. Griffiths notes in Politico that this percentage is higher than it ever was under President Bush or President Obama, who both peaked at 55 percent.

President Donald Trump has failed to realize the presidential role of uniter-in-chief, according to a new poll, and is instead viewed by most Americans as doing more to divide the country than either of his two most recent predecessors.

Apparently Trump's attacks on immigrants, Muslims, women and Gold Star families don't really send a uniting message.

But many believe Obama is really to blame for dividing America and Trump is just cleaning up the mess. Liz Peek argues in The Fiscal Times that Obama's decision to continue attacking his successor not only breaks with precedent, it is just plain rude.

Obama will go down as the only president in history to spend eight years vociferously criticizing both his predecessor and his successor. According to Obama, nearly every problem facing the nation, even in the eighth year of his presidency, can be ascribed to George W. Bush. The remainder can be blamed on Donald Trump. That is quite the legacy.

Under Obama, race relations deteriorated significantly. His defenders argue this was due to racism against the first black president, but critics believe Obama failed to bring the country together and instead chose to double-down on his more divisive policies. Trump cannot be blamed for the actions of his predecessor.
