Should Dianne Feinstein retire?

The California Democratic Party declined to endorse Sen. Dianne Feinstein in a huge blow to the incumbent senator of 25 years. Critics of Feinstein argue she is too old and too moderate to represent the state of California, and she should retire so the party can embrace a fresh face. But Feinstein's defenders point out she has been an exceptionally effective senator and was responsible for releasing the Fusion GPS transcript over objections from Republicans. What do you think?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein received a blow when she failed to garner the endorsement of the California Democratic Party. While Feinstein is way ahead in the polls and has a huge fundraising advantage over her opponents, she did not receive enough support from the party's delegates to win the nomination.

A candidate must garner the support of 60 percent of the delegates to win the party’s nomination. None of the candidates running for statewide election met that threshold.
Still, Ms. Feinstein’s showing was particularly stark given her status as a Democratic institution. Mr. de León drew 54 percent of the vote, or 1,508 votes, compared with 37 percent, or 1,023 votes, for Ms. Feinstein.

Others feel the attacks on Feinstein are both ageist and sexist.

But at age 84, many believe whether we like Feinstein or not isn't the point. If re-elected, Feinstein would serve California for another 6 years, making her 90 in 2024.

Others want Feinstein to retire because they believe she is too moderate. California can afford to have a more liberal representative.
