Have Democrats done enough to denounce Harvey Weinstein? | The Tylt
The New York Times reported movie mogul and political donor Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed women for decades; and many are demanding Hillary Clinton and other Democrats do more to denounce him. The RNC called for Democrats to return money given to them by Weinstein, but a lot of that money has been donated to charity. Some believe Democrats have done plenty to condemn Weinstein, but others feel the silence of certain Democrats is both unacceptable and hypocritical. What do you think?
Have Democrats done enough to denounce Harvey Weinstein?
Since an explosive report in The New York Times revealed Weinstein's years of sexual misconduct, many in Hollywood and the Democratic Party have loudly denounced the entertainment mogul. According to Variety, Weinstein has donated more than $1.4 million to Democratic candidates and political action committees since 1990. But his ties to the political party run even deeper than campaign contributions:
Among his biggest beneficiaries are President Barack Obama, whose daughter was an intern with Mr. Weinstein’s company this year. At a career workshop for high schoolers at the White House, where Mr. Weinstein was a guest several times, Michelle Obama called him “a wonderful human being, a good friend and just a powerhouse.”
Mr. Weinstein is also a yearslong friend of both Bill and Hillary Clinton, for whose 2016 presidential campaign he was a major contributor and driving force, holding a fund-raiser in his home at one point.
While a number of Democrats have pledged to give Weinstein's donations to charity organizations, there has yet to be comment from the Obamas or the Clintons regarding the allegations against Weinstein.
There has been no comment from Mr. Obama or Mrs. Clinton, who condemned Donald Trump for boasting of sexual assault on the “Access Hollywood” tape. These Democratic leaders, admired by many young women and men, should make clear that Mr. Weinstein also deserves condemnation. If such powerful leaders take the money and stay mum, who will speak for women like Mr. Weinstein’s accusers?
Many Republicans have called out Democrats for what they view as hypocritical behavior. Hilary was quick to call out Republican predators for their bad behavior, yet remains silent when it's someone who's donated to her campaign.

But others think the right wing attempt to paint Democrats as hypocrites is ridiculous. Weinstein was a donor, not an elected official, and Democrats have denounced his behavior and given away his contributions. On the hand, after the Access Hollywood tape was released, Republicans made Donald Trump their president.
The Republicans who are out for blood have less-than-zero credibility on this issue... A leaked Access Hollywood tape revealed President Trump bragging about grabbing women “by the pussy.”
President Trump is not a prominent donor, but the leader of his political party (at least nominally) and the most powerful man on earth. The fact that he still remains vastly popular with his base and commands loyalty from both lawmakers and right-wing media is not exactly a testament to the Republican party’s concern about the sexual mores of powerful men.

For the record...not one Democrat defended or made excuses for Harvey Weinstein...— Tony Posnanski (@tonyposnanski) October 8, 2017
But I can name plenty of the GOP who defended Trump.
To be clear what Harvey Weinstein did was a disgusting abuse of power and horrible. I hope we are now seeing the beginning of the end of these abuses.— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) October 8, 2017
