Is the Democratic establishment out of touch?

After the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) released a memo smearing Texas Democrat Laura Moser, Bernie Sanders' progressive group Our Revolution formally endorsed Moser. Many are outraged that the DCCC would so openly attack a fellow Democrat, and believe it proves the Democratic establishment is completely out of touch. But the DCCC has defended itself, arguing Moser is a weak candidate who has no chance of winning in her district. What do you think?

The DCCC came under fire after they published an opposition research memo smearing Texas Democrat and congressional candidate Laura Moser.

Laura Moser is not going to change Washington. She is a Washington insider, who begrudgingly moved to Houston to run for Congress. In fact, she wrote in the Washingtonian magazine, “I’d rather have my teeth pulled out without anesthesia” than live in Texas.

The memo accuses Moser of being a carpetbagger unfit to serve Texas’ 7th district and also alleges Moser "paid over $50,000 in campaign money to her husband’s DC consulting firm."

The move came as a shock to many as the DCCC rarely involves itself in primary races, and Bernie Sanders' progressive group Our Revolution responded by officially endorsing Moser's campaign and blasting the DCCC as being out of touch.

The DCCC’s ridiculous attacks on Laura Moser are why Democrats nationally have lost over 1,100 seats. Laura is a rising progressive advocate that the workaday people of Texas desperately need... The people of Texas should be allowed to make their own decisions on who to vote for without the influence of Washington insiders.

Moser herself claimed the DCCC's decision to smear a fellow Democrat is exactly why Democrats are losing elections.

Others blasted the DCCC and demanded an apology.

Even Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke expressed concern that Washington insiders were trying to decide an election for Texas voters.

But others argue the DCCC is just doing their job. Texas' 7th district is extremely competitive, and Democrats believe they need the strongest candidate possible if they want to win in 2018.

When asked about the memo, the DCCC doubled-down, believing Moser would rob Texas voters of their chance to elect a Democrat.

And Moser has yet to answer for the charges against her husband in particular. Is that really the kind of candidate Democrats should be supporting?
