The mass shooting in Las Vegas that has left more than 50 dead and over 500 wounded is the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. As horrific details of the shooting continue to unfold, many are wondering if the events in Las Vegas will lead Congress to enact stricter gun control laws.

Republican members of Congress have repeatedly offered "thought and prayers" in response to mass shootings, but their condolences have yet to translate into legislative action. Many believe this tragedy is no different.

But Democratic members of Congress have been extremely vocal in calling out their colleagues and pushing them to do more than offer prayers. Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, who was thrust into the gun control debate after Sandy Hook left 20 children dead, has led the fight for stricter gun laws and had some harsh words for his Republican colleagues.

And other Democratic members of Congress have echoed Murphy's call to action, leaving some hopeful that the Las Vegas shooting may finally lead to change.
