The Richmond School Board voted 6-1 in favor of renaming JEB Stuart Elementary School after Barack Obama.

JEB Stuart was a slaveholding Confederate general from Virginia. His name was removed last year from a school in Falls Church, Virginia, which is about a two-hour drive north of Richmond. The school was renamed Justice High School.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are as many as 100 schools in the U.S. still named after Confederate leaders.
