Should Cardi B run for president?

As the government shutdown drags on, President Trump has called for tens of thousands of workers to return to their jobs, without pay. These unpaid workers have found a new and surprising champion in hip-hop star Cardi B. After Trump's announcement, Cardi took to Instagram and unleashed a torrent of profanity and frustration. The video quickly racked up millions of views and left fans and politicians alike wondering whether or not Cardi has the makings of a leader. What do you think?

In a little under a minute, Cardi B ripped apart the rationale for the current shutdown.

Cardi loves the presidency. In a 2018 interview with Caity Weaver for GQ, Cardi stunned the reporter with her depth of knowledge about the executive branch. She even dug deep for her favorite president—Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"First of all," continues Cardi B, "he helped us get over the Depression, all while he was in a wheelchair. Like, this man was suffering from polio at the time of his presidency, and yet all he was worried about was trying to make America great—make America great again for real. He's the real 'Make America Great Again,' because if it wasn't for him, old people wouldn't even get Social Security."

Cardi went on to showcase an encyclopedic knowledge of presidents and the Constitution. She's already a student of government, who says she couldn't learn enough to become president herself?

Unfortunately, Cardi is the first to admit she doesn't have all the answers. As Vox reports, her video is mostly venting frustrations and is a little light on actual solutions.

“I feel like we need to take some action. I don’t know what type of action, because that’s not what I do, but bitch, I’m scared. This is crazy. And I really feel bad for these people that gotta go to fucking work to not get motherfucking paid.”

Cardi loves swearing and, if the situation mere weeks ago with Rashida Tlaib is any indication, the American public isn't quite ready for a politician who curses.

After Tlaib called the president a "motherf---er," she was roundly censured. Rolling Stone reported her colleague Rep. Jerrold Nadler said, "I don't like that language." We're probably not ready for someone as prolifically profane as Cardi.
