"America's Pastor" Rev. Billy Graham has died at age 99, and many are celebrating his legacy. The evangelical Christian pastor preached to "an estimated 215 million in 185 countries" during his life, and also served as a counselor to a dozen U.S. presidents. Graham was greatly admired as a pastor and had a lasting influence on American Christian life.

The longtime evangelist appeared on Gallup’s list of most admired men and women 60 times since 1955 — every year the research company asked the question.

But others aren't so sure Graham deserves all the praise. He was famously homophobic, arguing homosexuality was a "sinister form of perversion" that was not permitted in the Bible.

He was also known for the sexist Billy Graham rule, followed by Vice President Mike Pence, which states married men shouldn't spend time alone with women who are not their wife. Critics argue rules like this put women at a fundamental societal disadvantage, especially in the workplace.
