Should President Trump fire Ben Carson?
HUD Secretary Ben Carson is proposing legislation that would triple rent for low-income Americans receiving federal housing subsidies. According to The Washington Post, the move would affect more than 4.5 million Americans who rely on federal housing assistance.
Tenants generally pay 30 percent of their adjusted income toward rent or a public housing agency minimum rent — which is capped at $50 a month for the poorest families. The administration’s legislative proposal sets the family monthly rent contribution at 35 percent of gross income or 35 percent of their earnings working 15 hours a week at the federal minimum wage. Under the proposal, the cap for the poorest families would rise to approximately $150 a month, three times higher than the current minimum.
Some find the latest news particularly egregious given the $31,000 Carson spent on a dining set using taxpayer dollars. It's inhumane to go after the poorest of the poor while treating yourself to luxury furniture.
This is not the Onion. @RealBenCarson, who recently bought a $31,000 dining set with taxpayer money and lied about it, wants to triple the rent on low-income people in federally subsidized housing. https://t.co/1isey0vMA9
