Who will win Best Actress, Drama: Natalie Portman or Amy Adams?
Best Actress is a jam-packed field this year, with competition from Jessica Chastain in "Miss Sloane," Isabelle Huppert in "Elle" and Ruth Negga in "Loving." But Portman has arguably the most lauded performance of the bunch. Adams led a box-office smash with a praised performance. Best Actress, Drama might have a surprise, but this seems like a two-horse race.
Portman is considered the frontrunner in this category. Her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy went over well with audiences and was also lauded by film critics. She might very well be on her way to winning her second Academy Award. Portman already won two Golden Globes for "Black Swan" (which led to an Oscar win) and Best Supporting Actress for "Closer." One more Golden Globe win for playing such a meaty role seems very likely for her.
Adams gives us yet another amazing performance in "Arrival." And out of all the nominees, her film is the biggest box office hit.
A Golden Globe win might not only secure an Oscar nomination for Adams, but a possible Oscar win too. Sci-fi dramas have been garnering more attention from the Oscars in recent years. "The Martian," "Gravity," "Inception" and "Interstellar" all have science fiction elements. And "Arrival" is not only a successful hit at the box office, but a critically-acclaimed film led by Adams.
And let's not forget that the Golden Globes LOVE her! She's won Best Actress, Musical or Comedy twice for "Big Eyes" and "American Hustle."
