Who should win Best Actor: Ryan Gosling or Casey Affleck?
We're almost at the end of movie awards season, and 2016 was one hell of a year for motion pictures. But before the season passes us by—the Tylt is facing off four of the five praised leading performances from the acclaimed actors nominated at the Oscars! (Sorry, but Viggo Mortensen will not win over the other four actors). But which actor should the Academy honor as Best Actor on Sunday night, Feb. 26?
Affleck is still the frontrunner to win the Oscar. But Gosling is one of the actors on Affleck's trail, and Gosling has the benefit of being in the frontrunner for Best Picture.
Gosling plays Sebastian, a struggling jazz musician who falls in love with an aspiring actress in Hollywood. The film is an ode to Hollywood and classic musicals and, of course, Hollywood loves it! After the film won big at the Golden Globes, Gosling could be adding an Oscar statue next to his Golden Globe for Best Actor — Musical or Comedy.
But Affleck has been the frontrunner to win for most of awards season. That might be in jeopardy due to Denzel Washington winning the SAG for Best Actor. Regardless, Affleck has a ton of awards on his side—including a Golden Globe for his performance in "Manchester by the Sea." But Affleck is facing backlash for past sexual assault allegations.
Yet—he's been winning all season for his performance as man who returns home to attend his brother's funeral, face his past and is tasked with raising his nephew.
"La La Land" might be taking home awards for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Actor. It could happen!
