Who should've gotten the role of Aladdin: Zayn Malik or Avan Jogia?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney reportedly struggled with "finding a male lead in his 20s who can act and sing has proven difficult — especially since the studio wants someone of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent (the animated film is set in the fictional Middle Eastern city of Agrabah)."
But fan-casting begged to differ! Disney finally cast Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine! So, we are still letting fans decide who should've gotten the title role in our mini bracket. In our first round, it was long hair beauties and seasoned actors Dev Patel and Avan Jogia—and acting newcomers Zayn Malik and Mustafa Ali.
Now it's Zayn versus Avan. Who should've gotten the role of Aladdin?
Zayn is an accomplished vocalist and performer. And he's persevered through performance anxiety, and this could've been big for him.
In the last few years, Zayn's solo career has taken off with an array of hits—like "Pillowtalk" and "I Don't Wanna Live Forever." While Directioners have said for years Zayn could play Aladdin some day, the Zsquad would agree and would have loved for him to have gotten the role. So, it's clear playing Aladdin would only raise Zayn's profile as an entertainer.

Avan is a quadruple threat—he can sing, dance, act and he's absolutely easy on the eyes. 😍
Fans campaigned hard for him, and Avan even auditioned before Mena landed the role. Disney and Guy should've listened, but Avan didn't make it across the finish line. And many wish he had because Avan has the talent and aesthetic necessary for Aladdin.
