The anticipated fifth installment of the "Underworld" franchise just dropped in theaters—but reactions have been pretty mixed. While some fans think the latest entry in the franchise is completely badass, most critics have panned "Underworld: Blood Wars." Do the "Underworld" faithful remain undeterred—or is time to admit this horror/action franchise has gone to the wolves? What do you think?

In the fifth installment, heroine Selene sets out to stop a war between the lycans (werewolves) and vampires. And she totally kicks ass along the way (again).

While some fans are dedicated to the franchise, critics argue the series is made up of a bunch of B-rated, bad action-horror flicks. In their minds—will it end already?! But if fans like it, isn't that what it's all about?

Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson points out that we know what to expect from B-rated franchises like the "Underworld" series. These films are all about the kick-ass action and gory horror. And the "Underworld" faithful seem to love it. So what's so wrong with that? It's one of the few franchises that has a successful and badass female lead the whole way through.

But still—most critics have given "Blood Wars" a low rating. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film is almost universally hated. And yet, the audience rating is much higher on Rotten Tomatoes and Cinemascore. "Blood Wars" has only made $13 million in the U.S. during its opening weekend. Internationally, the film has brought in $42 million since November 2016.

Some fans, of course, enjoyed the film.

Others—not so much.
