Are we done with Uggs?

Uggs are a fall-winter staple. Just as pumpkin spice everything begins to heat up, it's inevitable that you will see folks trucking around in the massive sheepskin snowshoe. Uggs continuously reinvent themselves each year and just when you think they are a done, they reappear in wedge form or are bedazzled out. But regardless of the fanciness of some Uggs, they will never be tolerated in certain spaces. Are Uggs out or in?

Uggs are so tragic that folks are getting kicked out of spaces for rocking them. The Independent reported on musician Joanne Catherall of The Human League after she was kicked out of Qantas Airline’s business-class lounge in Melbourne Airport due to her massive snow boots. The airline holds a very strict dress code and Uggs didn't make the cut. The airline told the publication:

“Over the past couple of years we have had clear feedback from lounge members that they wanted these existing guidelines to be applied more rigorously.”

The fashion gods must be shedding light on Uggs because each year they continue to evolve. The thigh-high Ugg boots were all over the 2018 runway, and each season the company seems to debut more styles and colors. According to Bustle, Uggs has a rich history and aren't going anywhere:

Many may not know that, although trademarked by one company now, the term ‘ugg’ has been around in Australia and New Zealand for decades. As BBC reported, thought to have first been manufactured in the 1930s, the unisex sheepskin boots (simply nicknamed ‘ugg boots’) were worn by surfers to keep their feet warm in cold weather and cool in the heat. It sounds like magic, maybe, but it’s all down to the insulative effect that sheepskin gives, allowing air to circulate in the shoes and keeping the wearer’s feet at optimum body temperature.
