While The CW (DC) and Netflix (Marvel) dominated the superhero show genre throughout the '10s, Amazon Prime's "The Tick" pilot premiered in 2016. "The Tick" follows the big, weird strongman in a blue Tick suit and his buddy Arthur as they battle a reemerged supervillain The Terror. The show has been a campy, clever, adventurous and hilarious trip ever since then. While the series was canceled after two seasons, "The Tick" holds a fresh rating of 95 percent, an audience score of 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of publication) and a fanbase for breathing new life into the franchise.
"Jessica Jones" is dark, cynical and sarcastic. While it was a slow-paced superhero show, there wasn't a dull moment with Krysten Ritter leading a fantastic cast. The series details PTSD, sexual assault, rape culture, mind control and all the drama that comes along with private investigation and more. Hence, "Jessica Jones" holds a fresh rating of 84 percent and an audience score of 78 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of publication). While season three recently premiered on Netflix, the show has come to an end—just like its counterparts "Daredevil," "Luke Cage," "The Punisher" and "Iron Fist." Nevertheless, "Jessica Jones" is already cemented in history as one of the few acclaimed superheroine shows. With "Batwoman" underway, here's to more comic book heroine-led series in the the near future.
