Critics are feeling the Force. Rolling Stone's Peter Travers writes "The Last Jedi" is the film you all have been waiting for.
Rian Johnson's middle chapter in the current Star Wars trilogy is the epic you've been looking for. Capped by Mark Hamill in the performance of his career, it points the way ahead to a next generation of skywalkers - and, thrillingly, to a new hope.
While the film is beloved by critics, fans are disappointed. Comicbook.com writes:
Currently, on Rotten Tomatoes, The Last Jedi has a 93 percent rating from critics, which ties it for the highest score in the entire Star Wars franchise. However, the audience score on the site is much lower, coming in at just 64 percent.
"The Last Jedi" didn't meet fan expectations. NO SPOILERS, but some diehard fans argue the film actively tried to work against what fans wanted to see happen... and they're pissed. Some are so upset that the Force may no longer be with them.
Star Wars Fans: We want something new and original. Don't copy the older films.
Disney: *makes a cool, orginal, meaningful film, that challenges old ideas*
